The chemical ingredients in Dristan are phenylephrine hydrochloride (0.50%), and pheniramine hydrochloride (0.20%).
Follow the instructions on the prescription bottle for proper use of Dristan.
It is recommended that you gently blow your nose before you use the medicine. Use one finger to close one nostril (the one that is not receiving the medicine).
While you are keeping your head upright, place the nasal spray tip into the other nostril (the one that isn’t closed) and spray the medicine.
Sniff a few times to make sure the medicine goes through your nose and repeat as necessary. Depending on the treatment, the medicine might need to be sprayed in the other nostril.
Clean the nasal spray tip with a napkin with hot water (make sure no water gets into the medicine) and wipe with a dry napkin.
Do not use this medication for long periods of times (more than 3 days) as it can cause rebound congestion (redness and swelling).
