Teveten (Eprosartan)


Teveten is the brand name for the drug eprosartan. Teveten is used in the treatment of high blood pressure, along with other medications. Teveten is used to block the action of natural substances in the body that tighten blood vessels. Teveten is in a classification of drug called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. When using this medication it allows your body to allow blood to flow smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently, helping you feel better.

Take Teveten exactly as prescribed by your doctor or as is written on your prescription bottle. Teveten is usually taken once or twice a day by mouth. Do not take more or less than is prescribed to you. Teveten does not cure high blood pressure it just treats it. If you feel well, continue to take Teveten as it has not cured your symptoms just alleviated them. It may take several weeks after starting Teveten to feel the full effects of this medication. Talk to your doctor before you stop taking Teveten. Some times Teveten is used to treat congestive heart failure and diabetic nephropathy. Talk to your doctor more about this if you suffer from these conditions. Also, your doctor may prescribe this medication to treat other conditions, talk to your doctor about these options if you wish.

If you are allergic to Eprosartan tell your doctor, also notify your doctor of any drugs or supplements you are taking, if you are pregnant or will become pregnant, breast feeding or any other condition you have. If you take Teveten you may experience side effects. Usually these side effects are minor; however, if they do not stop or are severe call your doctor immediately. Side effects include:

  • excessive tiredness
  • stomach pain
  • joint pain

If you experience any of these symptoms ever, call your doctor immediately:

  • swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
  • hoarseness
  • difficulty breathing or swallowing

If you become pregnant while on Teveten, stop taking it and call your doctor immediately. Teveten has similar side effects to Norvasc. Norvasc side effects include:

  • swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
  • headache
  • upset stomach
  • stomach pain
  • dizziness or lightheadedness
  • drowsiness
  • excessive tiredness
  • flushing (feeling of warmth)

More serious side effects are:

  • more frequent or more severe chest pain
  • rapid, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
  • fainting

Do not overdose on Teveten, if you do call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or has stopped breathing call 911. Over dose symptoms include:

  • dizziness
  • fainting
  • Rapid heartbeat.
