Side Effects for Darvocet, Lawsuits linger following Recall

While Xanodyne has recalled the drug, lawsuits over Darvocet side effects still remain, including one connected with the death of 22-year-old Kira Nicole Gilbert, who took the drugs after ripping a knee muscle, Cincinnati.com reports.
Gilbert’s parents, Tammy and John Gilbert, covered a file of one of the lawsuits against the drug producer, claiming the drug made their daughter develop heart failure, which ultimately killed her in April 2009.
“I took the doctor’s statement, and I took the information on that medication that it was harmless. It wasn’t,” Tammy Gilbert told the news foundation. “This has shattered our life.”
The US Food and Drug organization reportedly claims new rules allowed the agency to arrange clinical trials of the sedative from Xanodyne. However, some critics disagree that the risks of Darvocet had been identified for a number of years, and that the summoning was issued far behind schedule.
The FDA announced in November it was pulling the pain medication from the US market.
