Omnaris is a nasal spray prescribed for the treatment of nasal symptoms associated with seasonal and year-round allergies. It is prescribed to adults and children over 6 years of age. The recommended dose is 2 sprays per nostril once a day. Omnaris is a synthetic corticosteroid which reduces inflammation.
The most common side effects noted by users of Omnaris include headaches, nose bleeds, sores inside the nose, stuffy nose, ear pain, and dizziness.
Other risks associated with the use of Omnaris are nasal fungal infections, wounds that are slow to heal, and eye problems including glaucoma and cataracts. Immune system functions may be compromised and people using Omnaris should avoid being around other people with serious viral or bacterial infections, especially Tuberculosis, Chickenpox or Measles because the use of corticosteroids can compromise the body’s ability to combat these illnesses. Children using Omnaris should be monitored by a medical professional because corticosteroids can retard growth.
Omnaris should be used under the care of a physician and in the recommended dosages. Overuse of corticosteroids including Omnaris can compromise the workings of the adrenal glands and should be avoided. When the adrenal glands are compromised by overuse, the patient may be need to be weaned gradually from any corticosteroid to allow the adrenal glands to begin functioning normally before there is a total withdrawal of the steroid from the system.
