Methylphenidate is a drug marketed as Methylin. Methylin is used in treating symptoms of ADHD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in both adults and children. Methylin is also used to treat narcolepsy or a sleep disorder that causes a lot of day time sleepiness and sudden attacks of sleep. Methylin is a class of drug called central nervous system stimulant or CNS for short. It changes the amounts of certain natural chemicals in the brain.
Methylin should be used exactly as prescribed or directed by your doctor. Methylin can be habit-forming so follow the instructions given to you exactly. Do not take more than the prescribed amount. If you take too much Methylin you may find that it no longer treats your symptoms and you may feel like you need to take large amounts of it. If you do not understand the instructions given to you ask your pharmacist or your physician to clarify. Your doctor may start you on a low dosage and gradually increase it to find the right dosage for you. If you condition does not improve or your symptoms get worse call your doctor immediately.
