FDA Acts to Reduce Harm from Opioid Drugs

The U.S. has been hit hard by the prescription drug abuse epidemic–our nation’s fastest-growing drug problem. Powerful prescription pain killers called opioids are at the center of this public health crisis of addiction, misuse, abuse, overdose, and even death. FDA is asking the companies that make those drugs to develop a doctor training and patient counseling program to educate prescribers and patients about the safe use and storage of these products.
