Fanapt (Iloperidone)

Fanapt is an atypical antipsychotic that changed the amount of natural substances found in the brain to help treat schizophrenia. The main ingredient in Fanapt is Iloperidone. Schizophrenia is a mental condition where the person who has it will have a loss of interest in life, strong or inappropriate emotions, and /or disturbed and unusual thinking. Fanapt is also used to treat other conditions, for more information on that you need to speak with your doctor.
Only take Fanapt as directed, do not take more or less than is prescribed by your doctor. Follow the directions on when and how to take Fanapt, these will be given to you by your doctor or pharmacist. IF you do not understand how to take Fanapt talk to your doctor or pharmacist and they will be more than happy to explain it to you in detail. Your doctor will most likely start you on a small dose and gradually increase it over time so that you are able to obtain the best dosage for your condition. Fanapt will not cure Schizophrenia; however, it will treat the symptoms. If you have not experienced any symptoms keep taking it.
Before you take Fanapt, tell your doctor if you are allergic to Iloperidone. Tell your doctor if you have any other medical conditions that you have. Tell your doctor if you are taking any supplements; also tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breast feeding, or going to become pregnant. All these things could have adverse effects while taking Fanapt. In clinical studies Fanapt caused side effects in some people. If you experience any of the following side effects and they are severe or do not go away call your doctor:
- weight gain
- nausea
- diarrhea
- stomach pain
- dry mouth
- sleepiness
- breast enlargement or discharge
- missed menstrual periods
- decreased sexual ability in men
- joint pain
If you experience any of the following side effects contact your doctor immediately because they are serious. Serious side effects include:
- rash
- hives
- itching
- dizziness
- fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
- fainting
- difficulty breathing or swallowing
- unusual movements of the face or body that you cannot control
- seizures
- sore throat, fever, chills, and other signs of infection
- unexplained fever without other signs of infection
- muscle stiffness
- confusion
- sweating
- painful erection that lasts for hours
Fanapt has very similar side effects to Seroquel. Seroquel side effects include:
- drowsiness
- dizziness
- pain in the joints, back, neck, or ears
- weakness
- dry mouth
- indigestion
- constipation
- gas
- stomach pain or swelling
- increased appetite
- excessive weight gain
- stuffy nose
- headache
- irritability
- difficulty thinking or concentrating
- difficulty speaking or using language
- loss of coordination
- unusual dreams
- numbness, burning, or tingling in the arms or legs
- missed menstrual periods
- breast enlargement in males
- discharge from the breasts
- decreased sexual desire or ability
If you experience any other side effects contact your doctor. If at any time a person taking Fanapt collapses or stops breathing call 911.
