Duragesic/Fentanyl Pain Patch

The fentanyl patch comprises an outer impermeable plastic shell and a drug permeable inner lining. The patch is applied straight to the skin where heat from the body turns on a regular release of fentanyl over a 72 hour period. This drug is a dynamic opiate pain-reliever held in a gel suspension between the 2 linings of the patch. The inner lining only lets a specific quantity of the drug into the body based totally on the requirements of the patient, usually between twenty-five to a hundred micrograms an hour. Sales of Duragesic earned Janssen Pharmaceutica over 1 billion greenbacks between the year 2002-2003. Sadly an issue in the seal between the linings was found in Feb 2004, prompting Janssen to at first recall one group of the patches, but a further 4 groups of the patch were removed from the market later in Apr. The Corporation has since recalled over 2,000,000 of the patches.
